Jan Walters

Jan Walters, an Iowa-based author, has built a prolific writing career through her compelling storytelling and imaginative blend of supernatural suspense. Her debut novel Believe (2013), a Victorian-era time-travel romance, was praised for its fresh take on the genre, adding layers of mystery and intrigue. Jan’s widely acclaimed Ghost and a Cop series follows the adventures of Detective Brett O’Shea and his irreverent ghostly partner, Al, as they confront a range of supernatural foes. The first book in the series, York Street (2014), earned Jan recognition as a 2016 Eric Hoffer Finalist, while its sequel, Red Sunset Drive, was awarded the prestigious Editor’s Choice and Rising Star Awards. The series continues with Tempest Court and Hazzard Avenue, where the detective’s psychic abilities are tested against voodoo magic and more.

In addition to her success as a novelist, Jan is also the founder of 1949 Productions, a company named in honor of her late husband. The goal of 1949 Productions is to shine a spotlight on Iowa’s rich storytelling talent, bringing screenplays and stories from local writers to the forefront of the film industry. Jan’s passion for her home state and its creative community drives the company’s mission to connect Iowa-based stories with movie viewers and producers around the country. With the upcoming release of the 2024 film Voodun, based on her novel Hazzard Avenue, Jan’s vision for 1949 Productions is already taking shape as she works to elevate Iowa’s creative voices to the big screen.
